Colette Standish

Dreamscape of the Erotized Body

Anglim/Trimble is proud to present the exhibition Dreamscape of the Erotized Body by Colette Standish, opening in our small gallery and in the media room at Minnesota Street Project on September 13.

In this exhibition of prints and video, Colette Standish embarks on a journey through the erotic dreamscape of the subconscious in pursuit of the ultimate erotic desire: the orgasm.

On view in the media gallery at MSP, Chasing the Light: Dreamscape of the Erotized Body comprises several video vignettes that transcend the erotic imagination from the subconscious world of dreams into the conscious world of being. The film explores the paradox of the erotic experience where tension is built up in order to be released, in a transgression of opposing energies that ignite a kaleidoscope of light and color. The sounds of breathing navigate the labyrinth of the subconscious dream world, yet simultaneously, the body is acutely aware of being in the present conscious world; lost and found, invisible and visible.

On view in our small gallery (room 209) are prints from the film that have been manipulated and moulded into submission from the subconscious, erotic imagination into the conscious world. Images are printed onto the surface of textured porous paper, whereby the conscious and subconscious – the visible and the invisible – merge and enter into a state of secretion and leave tattooed traces of an erotic lived experience.

Please join us for a reception on Saturday, September 13, from 4-6pm in room 209 at Minnesota Street Project. The exhibition is on view concurrently with Enrique Chagoya–Déjà Vu through Saturday, October 25.
